If you haven't seen this HBO mini series yet, you really should get on it. It's absolutely amazing! Kate Winslet's performance (thus far) has, as per usual, really gone straight to my heart-- She really knows how to embody "suburban depression". Judging by the trailer, Evan Rachel Wood, who is about to play the adult version of her daughter, Veda, will no doubt portray the villainous character perfectly. The series airs on Sunday nights, but you can see 3 of the 5 parts already on demand!

I'll be taking some photos of my lovely little friend, Rachel Kelly today with the help of my best bud, Mandy Bisesti! We are going to try and get the Veda look going as best we can (being that this is a somewhat last minute idea)....

Yesterday, I spent from 7am to 7:30 pm outside on the cold streets of NYC as hired prop girl on a Kate Spade video shoot (with my lady, Mandy Bisesti, who was hired to do makeup/styling, and asked me to come on board)! Joe Victorine of Smash Camera was the DP-- amazingly talented guy who we've worked with before on the Nicole Atkins videos...

Needless to say (for those in the tri-state area), it was utterly frigid all day. The crew was lucky enough to be bundled in outdoor gear, however, poor Greta (the beautiful and amazing model) was stuck in a thin dress with no stockings from sunup to sundown!

Along with Greta, Rocious (puppy actor) and the Kate Spade bike, every location we filmed at was adorable! I can't wait to see what the final edit looks like.

I had to build that box stack with cake boxes stapled together into one mass -- securing something like that to the bike in a pretty/semi invisible way was no easy task! I think I picked out some pretty lovely flowers too-- However, it was so cold they did not fair well for long :/ :

I just got back from Austin! SXSW was amazing (better than the first time). I came home and found this waiting for me :

Here's a quick rundown of my travels to Austin, TX. Something you may not know about me (unless you know me personally), is that I am TERRIFIED of flying. This is most likely due to the fact that I've not been on a plane since I was only a couple of years old. Therefore, the trip from Jersey to TX was done by train.. This was an absolutely terrible idea, free of any romance you might expect (I forgot that it wasn't 1890, when something like that COULD have been romantic, with beautiful dining cars and sleeper rooms). It was long, uncomfortable and a bit strange. I also didn't expect the amount of Amish people to be on board (though that makes complete sense)....The only bonus was meeting my little Amish friend:

What a little button she is! Also, quite a scamp-- I didn't know that Amish people could be so carefree-- McDonalds and some serious cross-training sneaks!

Once we made it past Chicago, the scenery became really lovely-- LOVE these wind turbines!:

After 2 days, I finally made it to Austin. I stayed with some great friends in San Marcos at the Paintbrush Ranch (Sam's mom's/stepdad's beautiful home/ B&B):

I found San Marcos and Austin to be incredibly familiar (despite the differences in the land), and also, really comforting! If ever I was to move a significant distance from Jersey, this is where I'd go!

After four days of Austin/SXSW (from morning until late night), we spent the last couple of days relaxing in San Marcos... The trip home was a trip, to say the least-- I bit the bullet and got on a plane (which I consider a pretty big accomplishment, mainly because it was my one true phobia throughout my life). Luckily I had Sam and Mandy there to cheer me on! Mandy captured the whole experience with her iphone, but I'm not going to request those pics from her....

I'm back home now-- New Jersey: you are cold, wet and snowy, but I missed you-- and I like you! And you look great :)

Well, I am going to attempt yet another round of consistently posting on this page-- It will most likely end as it always does, but for now, I'm back!

Also, my good friends Mandy Bisesti, Joe Jennings and I (along with a bunch of really amazing humans who generously lent their talent and time) created a series of music videos for singer/songwriter, Nicole Atkins. It was an extremely work filled project, as the budget was quite small-- Also, I had never really worked on a video before (aside from the Butch Walker one I co- creative directed a few years back), so it was quite a foreign experience! However, the videos turned out pretty amazing I think! Four of them have been released so far on Vevo, IFC, and IMDB. Not bad!

I wanted to post a quick blog before the year is up--I may not get to it until after New Years, so just in case--Happy Holidays everyone!

New shoot concept! I wouldn't reveal it (in fear of the idea being snatched) but I've already begun the series....So I'm hoping nobody decides to pretend they have come up with the very same notion while I'm planning out the next shots.....I came up with the idea a while ago, but it's been refreshed by an article released in Vanity Fair recently. The series is going to be based on Norman Rockwell paintings (you've heard it here first)! I have always adored his work, since I was a little girl--part of the reason I majored in illustration was because of him. I never really attempted to analyze how he creates a painting, but I was really excited to see that he uses reference photography to set up a shot! The Vanity Fair article is great---complete with a few of his final paintings next to the original reference photos. I can't fathom how anyone could have ever considered his work "low brow" ---In my eyes, he doesn't just paint humans, he paints humanity--he paints people's souls!

Subject shift! : I am so excited to see Nine! I can't wait--I think I just may have to see a movie on Christmas day (never been done before)...I think it looks really promising--normally I am hesitant when it comes to these types of movies (musicals AND remakes/adaptations of any kind), but I think this looks great! Annnd, how can you go wrong with DDL or Sophia Loren ?? I also adore when actors who don't normally sing and dance showcase their hidden talents (or occasionally, lack there of)....Check out how adorable Kate Hudson is! :

I'm fully back into the Euro/Mod vibe this week now....Makes me excited that I will soon be an official Italian citizen too! :)

I am so pleased with my red hair! So far I've gotten a few Pam Courson and Hailey/Paramore refs, and most recently Sharon Tate in Fearless Vampire Killers! Amazing! (Thank you, Ana Paula, for making my day) It's silly to care- I know- but it feels SO great to not get any more Gaga remarks!!

Happy Holidays to everyone! Once again, I've been slacking a bit more than I should on these blog posts...

I've been a little behind in organizing myself--I wanted to have the beginning of a show organized by now, but I think it's going to have to wait until after the new year.

A new blog post is shamefully overdue...I've been super busy the last month, also, totally lazy when it comes to the upkeep of this blog. I'm going to make a better effort, I kid you not! This post will be a quick update....

The past few weeks have been spent shooting and editing--I took some great photos of Butch Walker at the Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC....Those shots will be posted soon--I'm waiting for him to give me the go ahead since they are part of the new album art. Also, I did a shoot for Sony BMG with an artist by the name of Nikki Jean. The photos were taken at the beautiful St. George Theater in Staten Island...Again, the shot posting is temporarily delayed until I get the go ahead.

Halloween was uneventful, however, Miss Mandy and I managed to get a little dolled up for Mischief Night:

Last week, I decided to go for it and finally dye my hair! I think it came out pretty darn great, it was time for a change! :

Last final bit of news for now is that The Star Ledger, a well-known newspaper, did a feature article about me! The article will most likely be posted to their site at some point, I'm not sure when---It came out last Friday, the 13th (quite fitting for me, don't you think??) ...Aside from one or two slight misquotes and inaccurate facts, I really enjoyed the article, and am quite pleased--I've been getting a lot of emails about it from various people--I already got offered a show as well! A show is also shamefully overdue, and I'll be working to get that going at some point after the new year...I hope I can get some of you guys to come out for it!!

I'm going to be making an effort to get some more personal photoshoots going as well...I have lots of ideas, I just need to execute them!

I found some eerie 'post-mortem' photography shots--These are real, people! Apparently it was a way for folks to memorialize their dead loved ones--Also, to give far off relatives "one last look" if they couldn't make it to the funeral...Ridiculously creepy, so of course I am beyond intrigued. I suppose when the life expectancy was half what it is now, things didn't seem as ...wrong? Though, I can't fathom how you'd pose with a dead person, especially a family member :

UPDATE, part 2: MTV PSA shoot with Joel Schumacher!

Last week, Mandy was hired to be the makeup artist on an MTV PSA shoot directed by Joel Schumacher (gasp!) about the dangers of 'sexting', sending nude photos of yourself to others (tell me why anyone does this?!?!), hurtful texts and how they affect others, etc...She was asked to hire and assistant, and guess who got the job! (who knew assistants got paid so well :) --We've decided we should just keep assisting eachother from this point on!

We arrived on set at 8 a.m this past Tuesday (the set being a middle school near Prospect Park in Brooklyn). I couldn't believe the general smootheness of the day--If this is what it's always like, I'd do it all the time!! The only stressful moment came when we began "tattooing" an actor, Owen, for the final segment of the PSA. The theme was hurtful texts, and how it can brand the receiver for life. Somehow we pulled it off in such a small amount of time, and it looked wonderful! Joel was very complimentary of our hard work, and gave us each kisses to boot for a job well done :)

UPDATE, PART 1 : FASHION WEEK

The two shows I went to were amazing! First was Miss Rachel Antonoff's...The venue was an enchanted theater called the Henry Street Playhouse. The show was setup onstage, and guests were invited to walk around the girls/props to get a closer look. Oh my, the collection was magical-- not one piece that I wouldn't want to take home with me. Rachel is a very lovely personable lady :)

The next show was more of a presentation with a film displayed as model's posed/interacted with guests. It was for Samantha Pleet's collection, held at the Soho Grand. My dear friend Nicole Atkins was one of the models in the show, and Miss Mandy did makeup, so we hung out a little backstage before it all went down...The mood was pretty casual--good vibes coming from mostly everyone....Samantha was a doll! Funnily enough, one of the male models was a guy I went to RISD with and hadn't seen since senior year. Once again, the clothing was so lovely, with a wonderful vintage feel-- There was a two piece red number that I couldn't take my eyes off of! (So many photoshoot possibilities with both Rachel and Samantha's designs)

This past week or two has been quite busy! I've been editing headshots, working on some personal projects with Mandy, and it is (of course) the start of NY fashion week. I went to a lovely show last night by Rachel Antonoff--magical little dresses and rompers with point shoes to match!

Saturday is an event with Samantha Pleet, one of my favorite designers, at the Soho Grand. Classing it up here, kids :)

I can't describe how excited I am that it's becoming fall..It makes me slightly depressed that the summer has gone by so quickly, but I love this weather so much. It makes me feel very nostalgic, and puts me in the mood for fun things like pumpkins, spiced cider, ghosts, and Little Women! NYC is magic in the fall too, I'm excited I've been able to get up there a few times this week.

I had a great shoot this past Thursday with Alexandra Grecco for her clothing lookbook... The model was the lovely Hannah, who you may already know! The clothes are divine--everything looks like marzipan :) I can't reveal those shots until Fashion Week, but I assure you they are adorable!

Before I forget: METEOR SHOWER TONIGHT! Starts around midnight, and goes until 5 am (supposedly). Apparently there will be 60-80 meteors an hour when it gets goin'. "If you want to wish upon a falling star, tonight's your night".

One final note:
To anyone who thinks it's ok to steal my photography, and to try to pass it off as his/her own--WATCH OUT! I have sources all over the map, and I've already had to bust several people...It happened last night as a matter of fact....So, before you are thinking about stealing mine or anyone else's artwork, think again--Not only is there zero gratification for you, but you are disrespecting the artwork you obviously enjoy....Please respect other's creativity! And, as I learned back in my fine art days, always ask permission when necessary...Thank you!

This was such a fun series to shoot and edit! Mandy did a perfect job with the hair and makeup, and Cara was a dream! Tomorrow is round two of this genre of photographs with Miss Caitly. Thursday, I have a lookbook shoot with the lovely Alexandra Grecco of Lulufinder Clothing. Busy week, but I like it!! Something else quite exciting on the horizon, but it's a secret for now :)

This past weekend was ridiculous....my boyfriend performed a side project show, and had cornrows-- that's all I'm going to say about that. A few quick snaps courtesy of Melissa D!:

So, Mandy and I had a big shoot planned for this past weekend--Cabins, historical village, costumes, bibles--the works! Unfortunately, the weathermen predicted nonstop thunderstorms, so we had to postpone it....Even MORE unfortunate was that it was sunny all weekend, and it was too late to put it back on! Jerky weather people!!

However, we sorta managed to salvage everything by putting together this last minute shoot (click to view large, even though the quality on this site isn't great--no stealing please!):

Mandy is such a trooper, she covered herself in dirt and fake blood and walked through the streets of Asbury Park all for the sake of the photos! The cabin shoot will happen towards the end of the summer--the next time we are all able to get it together again..sigh

Thoughts?

I enjoy everything up to the shrinking of Alice--when she enters Wonderland--I have mixed feelings...Anyone else agree that surreal sunshine is sometimes creepier than broken down darkness--and could have worked better? I wish he created the tea party the same we he created the "By the Sea" sequence in Sweeney Todd--crazy saturated colors seems like it would fit better to me...Questioning some of the CGI too--I'm going to have to watch this a few times...

Alice is perfection, though!

It is so disgustingly hot today, I can't think straight! I would gladly accept this if it was 1950, and I was sitting on a lake somewhere in the deep south...That kinda sounds fun--In a hidden little bar in the woods with a piano player...My mind wanders a lot ...

Anywhooo, the boys are home! The Parlor Mob show is Friday night at The Stone Pony for anyone local, who somehow didn't know about it already.

It was a lovely day this afternoon. On the cool side, which I like. I took Roger (the beagle) for hang time with my cousin's doggie, that was pleasant. The boys will be home soon, I'm so glad!

This past week or so has been pretty successful. Mandy came down (I'm so fortunate to have a friend willing to make the trek back and forth from Brooklyn with tons of equipment, costuming, makeup, etc) and we completed two projects. Of course, not without a hitch!

The first shoot involved our friend Marni and her lovely new house in Asbury Park. Our other friend, Anthony Jude, made a special appearance as well. Mandy and I learned that alien bees spread far apart without transmitter/receivers don't like to fire consistently! I'm about to purchase some new ones (CSRB+) so that I don't have any future difficulties. It was ok though--we managed to pull off the shoot by having Mandy manually fire the second strobe (we tried to keep it in sync!)

The second shoot involved Mandy and a raw chicken--I've been talking about this for a while but it finally went down last night--mmm salmanilla! I'll be editing that shot tomorrow. It seems as though some new projects are being lined up towards the beginning of August. A couple lookbooks, some headshots and press shots. Fun fun. We nailed down a location for the V Suicides shoot--it's perfect!

On Monday afternoon Mandy and I took a stroll into Ocean Grove (one of my favorite places to stroll) and found some magical little antique shops. I bought this lovely dress there for 16 dollars:

Verrrry tiny--it will be used sometime soon--perhaps somewhere in the V Suicides shoot.

**Random sidenote--has anyone ever seen this movie before?: Funny Games ...if you are in the mood to be slightly confused and quite disturbed I'd recommend it. This is the second night it's been on, and I've decided to watch it rather than going to bed (I'm not one for sensible decisions). Michael Pitt is pretty foxy....

I can never manage to go to bed at a reasonable hour! Somehow I've been changing the 'look' of this blog since midnight, and realized this is as good as it's going to get for now. I had to send back my new lens to adorama--it worked for a hot minute and decided to quit on me. Fingers crossed it's not my camera!

There's plenty of shoots on the horizon. At least three occurring next week (with Miss Mandy, of course, and hopefully a few other friends). We're going to seriously start experimenting with new lighting and props--it's high time I resurrected the theater kid in me and start building sets again as well. By the end of August I'm hoping we can get to St. George theater for more magic:

Isn't it beautiful?! That's just a glimpse! Our good friend David Cruse (who's also a photographer) runs this place, and has offered it up to us for whatever our hearts' desire! It's great to have creative minds come together. I cannot wait to use that snack stand...

I took some photos with a work friend, Tahnya, before she leaves for California. Her first time modeling--here's a pic from the shoot (click to view large--the quality is pretty crummy on this site but you get the idea):

June went by quite quickly--a bit disturbing. It seems that New Jersey has had more rain than anywhere else in the country--this is what I've been told. Its finally stopped, though I didn't mind it this time around! A road trip to Cali is currently being planned for the end of the summer/early fall. Once we finish these shoots, Mandy and I are going to pack up someone's car and hit the road...I think? I'm a little nervous but more excited to do it than anything...I'm yearning for a temporary change of scene..

Quick question--Does anyone know where you get good quality/large format prints of digital photos? I shoot tiff format at the largest setting available on my camera, and it's only about 11 by 14 at 300 dpi. I realize I can get away with 200 dpi, but I'm wondering how people print poster size without losing the quality. Are they using high res scanners to blow the images up?

Anyone know how to customize blogspot? I've been trying for the past hour but I can't seem to really find anything to help! I'd like a blog page where I can have a header image and title (basically like I already have). I'd also like the background to have a wallpaper type pattern, BUT the blog posts themselves to be on a clean white background with a border...Does that make sense? I've tried but thus far, no cigar. I even tried customizing the Rounders template (because that seems to be the only one with a separate color space for the blog posts themselves) but that hasn't worked either. Curses!

This isn't a real blog post, I apologize. It's 2 am and I'm starting to go cross-eyed from staring at this screen for too long...

Tim Burton + Alice + Looking Glass? Throw in the Depp man and Alan Rickman? It really doesn't get much better, friends-- at least not for this gal!

Initially, I was hoping that Jayne Wisener (Sweeney Todd), would be taking on the role of Alice:

I've been somewhat photographically challenged the past few days. I was creatively blocked, and yesterday I broke one of my lenses and cracked the built-in flash. That put me in quite a dark mood, but today seems to be better. I'm going to attempt to take a few shots tonight using the portrait lens (great lens, but it's got many limitations) while I wait for the replacement to come in the mail. Over the next two weeks I would really love to get some shots finished with Miss Mandy. Scheduling conflicts have made it difficult to get it together, but we seem to be on the right track now! There are more NYC trips on the way as well, hopefully involving creative ventures, and a little less bar action. I'm going to try and update more frequently than I have been, so please check back in!

Most bands can't seem to hold their own when it comes to performing live. The Avetts put on one of the best shows I've ever seen (along with The Parlor Mob, and Nicole Atkins)! I know I've mentioned them in a previous post already, but it's worth a second glance. The footage above is quite tame compared to their shows, but it's wonderful nonetheless.

I'm sitting here, listening to Regina Spektor's new album on repeat (well, on myspace because it's not out yet)--amazing! 'Folding Chair' is very dear...The album goes well with the rain...

My boys, The Parlor Mob, have left again for tour. Three weeks and change in GUH! Canada...Nothing left to do but take photos and read!

I went to see my lovely friend Nicole Atkins and her band, The Sea, along with The Avett Brothers last night at Irving Plaza. If you haven't checked out either band, please do so!

I'm giving in to all the suggestions (and my own personal desire): Twilight inspired shoot on the way soon. Most likely this will turn into two shoots--one Twilight rendition, and one Anne Rice style, minus the filth :) ...If you haven't succumbed to the Twilight craze, just do it. At least, read the books--really wonderful thus far. And what better way for this Mormon author to express her faith? Through vampires! Quite clever of her, if you think about it!

I've got many shoots to do over the summer. It will start with Miss Mandy, and a raw chicken. That's all I'll say about that for now. We've also got a Virgin Suicides shoot (long time in the making) on the horizon, as well as a fox-faced tea party. So much to do, but plenty of time!

Hello all, welcome to my blog!
I have been so torn on whether or not to start one for
ages now, but I feel it's time. No big deal right?

Quick bio for those who don't already know it:
I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and in 2006 from New York Academy of Art with a Master of Fine Arts degree. After years of schooling, I decided I needed a break from painting and drawing, and picked up a camera. Since then, I've been photographing constantly, gradually turning this hobby into a career. I now work as a freelance photographer and an image retoucher in the New Jersey/New York area.

Recent news : I recently co-directed a video for a new friend named Butch Walker. I took photos for him back in the fall, and he asked me to help with his latest video. It was my first time ever being involved with anything film/video related--quite an interesting experience! Very low budget, but I think we pulled it off!
